How it began
Kisha Birdsong has always adopted grandparents.
Long before there was a business by that name, there was just Kisha — drawn to elders the way some people are drawn to water, unable to fully explain it except to say it felt kindred. She spoke of “adopting grandparents” before she ever filed a single form, before she had a client, before she had a name for what she was building.
Then a man of ninety-four came into her care, and everything she'd suspected about that pull started to prove itself out loud. What no one expected was her son. Wynn was five. Five-year-olds are not known for patience, and this one had it anyway — sitting still through long stories, asking the kind of follow-up questions that make an old man feel like his life is still worth telling.
It became something neither of them expected. Not a chore, not a visit — a bond, built the way birds build things, out of whatever was on hand: patience, curiosity, time. The man became something like a second grandfather, dispensing wisdom translated through decades into something a five-year-old could actually use.
And Wynn, without meaning to, gave something back that no medication could: a reason to sit up straighter. His health care workers noticed before Kisha said a word about it — his posture improved, his outlook lifted, something in him that had been dimming came back a little brighter.
That is the story underneath everything Birdsong Family Care builds.
